About Chris Bowes

With a passion for audiology and patient care, I’ve built a rewarding career dedicated to hearing and balance health. My journey started as an Assistant Technician, and over the years, I’ve proudly progressed to become a Clinical Lead and Chief Audiologist, a Senior Lecturer, and now a Training Manager in the UK and Ireland.

My expertise lies in hearing aid technology and vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, ensuring patients receive personalised solutions to improve their hearing and balance. I have worked extensively with advanced hearing aid systems, helping individuals find the best technology suited to their needs. By combining cutting-edge technology with patient-centered care, I have empowered countless individuals to regain confidence in their daily lives.

Beyond clinical practice and education, I am also a published author and researcher, contributing to advancements in balance health and audiology. I have authored two chapters in a book focused on balance, detailing key approaches to assessment and rehabilitation. Additionally, this has led to the development of innovative balance treatments, with several published papers showcasing cutting edge treatments designed to improve patient outcomes. Through these contributions, I aim to bridge the gap between research and practical application, ensuring that advancements in hearing and balance treatment directly benefit those who need them.

My commitment to audiology has spanned nearly 25 years in the NHS, where I worked full-time, helping patients and mentoring professionals. I also spent two years teaching audiology at De Montfort University Leicester as a Senior Lecturer, sharing my expertise with aspiring audiologists. Starting as an Assistant Technician in Medical Physics, I advanced through the ranks, eventually leading clinical teams, heading vestibular training programs, and guiding future audiologists in rehabilitation techniques. As a module lead for Bachelor of Science and foundation degree courses, I played a key role in shaping the next generation of audiology professionals.

Training and education have been at the heart of my career. I’ve had the privilege of delivering specialized training to a wide variety of individuals, including patients, audiologists, scientists, physiotherapists, doctors, nursing staff, general practitioners, ENT consultants, and even senior healthcare management teams. Whether leading audiology training sessions, hosting directorate staff engagement meetings, or supporting Meniere’s disease patients, I believe in adapting my teaching approach to suit different learning styles and needs.

In my most recent years in the NHS, I took on the role of Audiology Research Champion for Yorkshire and the Humber, collaborating with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). This allowed me to contribute to national and international research projects alongside esteemed ENT and audiology professionals, shaping the future of hearing and balance healthcare.

I am passionate about advancing audiology care, making research more accessible, and ensuring every patient receives the best possible support. Whether through education, leadership, clinical work, or research, I strive to make a meaningful impact in the field.
